IN BRIDPORT’S Rural Lidl, there is apparently a police presence as the new store opens. Whether it is as a precaution against irate St Andrew’s Road residents or to control the crowds snapping up cut-price prawn rings, Panettone and chocolate Santas, I do not know.
But it all sounds a little crazy.
A day earlier and up the road in Dorchester, a driver attempts unsuccessfully to feed the parking meter in High West Street during a heavy rain storm. When she rings the county council to complain, she is told yes, that’s right. The meters are solar powered and they don’t work properly in bad weather.
Here in the rural idyll of Lush Places, things don’t seem quite so weird.
