AS THE people of Lush Places prepare for the annual arrival of the Seavington Hunt this morning, there are some bleary eyes after last night’s rally through the village.

Roaring motorbikes, chugging classic cars and rusty old 4x4s rumbled through the night, headlights blazing, road maps-a-gazing.

In a few minutes, the noise will be replaced by barks, neighs and the rah-rah sound of people on horseback (the hounds and the steeds are pretty quiet).

The stirrup cup will be passed around, sausage rolls consumed and a solitary protester will keep their thoughts to themselves.

With a pile of steaming horse poo already outside my front door, I can’t help thinking what fun it would have been if the two events had collided.

Tally ho!
