What the rules are designed to do is to stop the Chief Executive and other public servants from intervening on one side of a matter of political controversy. There is absolutely nothing stopping Cllr Gould commenting - he is a politician after all - that's what happens in election campaigns, politicians debate the issues. What the rules should do is stop Cllr Gould using our money to promote his side of the argument. Cllr Gould’s comments about “official council publicity” during election campaigns are interesting. I was at Sue Farran't Bridport meeting, there were so many people there angry about it all. Certainly no political football.
